Food for Thought
The person that lives their life wanting, hoping, and wishing to be "better" than the next person will never succeed in life.
There is no "better than" when it comes to life. Everyone gets out of life what THEY put into it ... that being said, when you sit and look at your life, and feel like you are "passing" someone else, think about this - did you get out of life what YOU put into your life or what someone else invested in it? Those that have never worked a hard day's work, or have never had to struggle to survive can not possibly sit back and really believe that they are "better than" or "passing" anyone else. Just like you can not judge another person's character, you really can not pass judgment on another person's walk in life. They may not be where you are, but they are probably a hell of a lot farther than where they started ... and thats more important than trying to "catch up" to you.
Damn, now that's real, and from the heart.
I don't live my life in hopes that I will be better than those around me. I live my life hoping that I can be better for myself, so that I can uplift those around me or even encourage them.
My walk has been a hard one, but I wouldn't change one step of it.
And like I said, I may not be where YOU are on your journey, but I guarantee you I have traveled many more miles than you, probably suffered a lot more than you ever had to, and have made it so much farther than I was when i started.
And because of that, I feel like I have accomplished a lot. And that makes me proud.

Valid view point, however, that's also an excuse used by would be failures to validate under-achievement... that they only need to look at their own life for comparison. Yea... that's all fine and dandy when you're content with your own pathetic self, but when you're ready to join the rest of the competing western world, we'll be waiting. When you get a diploma... you aren't getting a diploma for your own ragged pace, but for keeping up with the MANDATORY minimum, or the overall "standard", if you will. Yes, be true to yourself, but don't get LOST in yourself. You've still got to compete in life, to some degree, to succeed in life (professionally speaking), whether you like it or not. But do be careful as to WHO YOU ALLOW to be your judge... that's where I believe many people lose touch. Most people aren't worthy, aren't logical, aren't your true friends or are straight up HATERS who shouldn't be allowed to hold any opinion of value to you... don't let THESE clowns be "the Jones's" in your life.
P.S. Specta's show is AWESOME! Ya'll keep up the good work!

Thank you, for both frequently reading and responding to my ads, but also for listening to and supporting the show!
Okay, so I see that you are going to make it your personal business to make me challenge my own thoughts and to make me delve deeper into what I really think ... I appreciate that, it keeps me on my toes!
The point that I am trying to make is that life is a not race. It doesn't matter who graduated first, got the job first, bought the house first, or got married first. Life is not a competition. If you live your life solely to be better than the people that are around you, you will never succeed because you are so caught up in trying to one-up the next person. I can understand wanting to be successful, wanting to have nice things, however, what I don't understand wanting to have them so you can look down on the people that don't. Feel me?
As always, this blog entry comes from something that has happened in my life. I sat back one day and listened to someone that I care about down the people around her, saying that she was doing "better than them" and "passing the people that started out with her". The real point that I was trying to make is that when it comes to life, it doesn't matter who crosses the finish line first, as long as we all cross it. And, if you get across before I do, how about coming back and helping me finish the last leg instead of turning your nose up at me because I am still running?
